My Child has Lead Posioning
And does the toy companies care? NO. It’s all about making money to them. Why are companies allowed to continue doing this to our children? Even after so many children have suffered from this you still see recall after recall. Yet just because they don’t recall a toy you should not think of it as being a “Safe” or “lead free” toy.
No recall only means the toy has not been tested.
My son was found to have lead poisoning at age 2. Working close with the health department, doctor, and other various people and places we were all at a loss on why he kept getting worse.
A list of all the things I did that didn’t help.
Painted the house inside and out.
Sold 2 cars 1 a 1950 and the other car was a 1969.
8 to 12 inches of fresh clean gravel in the driveway.
Swept and moped all floors daily.
Washed every surface of every item in the house daily.
My son was NOT allowed outside for the entire summer.
And his lead continued to rise. Despite my best efforts. The water was tested along with the air inside and out. I was at a loss my wife was at a loss. Friends, family, the health department, and his doctor also could not figure it out. That’s when I looked around and realized the only thing left was his toys. (This was 2 months before the first recall) I said what the hell ill take all of those away too. Its not like I didn’t already feel like a horrible parent. i was going to just start with the toys made in China. That’s when I realized that that was 99.99% of them!
Family and friends criticized me harshly for my decision. Which of course only made me feel even worse. But then the recalls started. And most of them started to change their tune. After doing this, his next lead test came back and his lead level had stabilized.
This was the very first test that did not have a sizable increase on his lead level. After this he was put on some meds that would bring his lead levels down. His lead level was at a high of 32. Now it’s down to 14. This has greatly affected him. He will turn 3 in Jan. 2008.
He’s had a speech teacher for the last year. He only has about 5 words that others can understand. He will start preschool at the age of 3. There he will also continue to see a speech teacher and an occupational therapist one on one.
