Meade County Fair Day Three!

Well we went back over to the Fair again on Thursday. We figured we would go a bit earlier then we did on Tuesday so might be able to get better parking. We went in my car also that way no issues with going in grass like in Joe’s car with his body kit.

We got there a bit early for the rides so we walked around to check out the other exhibits that we hadn’t seen the time before. We went in and looked at the 4-H booths. It was super nice in there as it was air conditioned. They had the biggest watermelon I’ve ever seen! There was also some very nice cross stitch work. Also got a few photos of the Lego’s that people had made. Had one that was a merry go round it was super neat.

All of the cow’s and goats other then the champion and reserve champion were already gone. I figured I would get a photo of them as most didn’t turn out to well the day before. Got a photo of the one when he was trying to scratch and get flies off of him.

Snapped a photo of the goat leaning into the lambs pen. As I am not sure we got a photo of the lamb’s the time before.

Was kinda icky the Pigs were laying in mud at the very end. Got a body and a face shot to show the whole pig. I never understood why they have to stick the head in it.

They had Chickens and Geese and Rabbits in the arena where they had, had the live stock show at on Tuesday. Paul wanted me to get a photo of every chicken there. So went through line and snapped photos of all the animals in the cages. Got the chickens first.

Had to go around to the rabbits from other side as there was people in the middle talking when we got around to them. Paul thought the rabbits were cool. He liked the white one with red eyes. I tried to get a few shots of him got one of him trying to get a drink also. I like the one at the end with the brown ears, eyes and nose. He was just to cute.

There was only handful of geese and ducks there this time though. I thought the ones with the lil balls on the head were pretty funny looking.

After we finally made it through the animals and through the rest of the booths it was almost time for the midway.

On our way to go to the ticket booth to get our stamps there was a thing that he could stick his head through so looked like was standing next to scooby-do and dauphnie. We were still bit early so went over to get food and something to drink as was super hot outside. Paul wasn’t to happy as he was ready to go ride on the rides “right then”

Soon enough it was time for the rides to start up. I tried something new with the camera. I set it to shoot in bursts. It was pretty cool though. If you look you can actually watch him slide down the slide. He had such a great time. I got designated to ride all of the rides with him. He was just barely tall enough to ride the bigger rides this year though. So he actually was able to ride all of the rides. He dragged me on the Farris-wheel … all I am going to say is Never again. Paul liked it last year but this year he did not.

We rode on the merry go round the first time he was sitting on the chair. He would wave at daddy every time we went around. Midway had not got to busy yet so wasn’t many on it. He said that the horses behind us were bad guys and they were trying to get us.

We went through all of the rides. We rode the scrambler and the one where went around in circle really fast. Paul liked the one where went fast but on a track. The one where it rocks he was fine till it went backwards then he wasn’t so sure about it. Daddy videoed him on all the rides and games. We had a great time. Daddy even let him do the dart game and he won a photo of avatar.

The second time through the rides it was a bit busier so had to stay in line on a few but not very long. On the second round of the merry go round paul was on a horse that he said was a bad guy. He was making faces at me as we went around. Got a great photo of him with his scary face. Sad thing is its funny instead of scary ! LOL

Paul decided he wanted to go through the haunted house which we tried to tell him he didn’t like it but he wouldn’t listen. So daddy got the video camera and went through. I snapped a few photos just to see where I was going. Paul was really scared and wanted out when it started making its loud noises and such. Unfortunately daddy had not been videoing like he thought he had but just a few seconds.

We got photos of him at each of the photo stops even got one of me and him together. By time got through them we were wore out but paul was still rearing to go.

Meade County Fair Day Two!

Well we decided to take Paul over to the Meade County Fair again today so he could watch the demo derby’s and have a look around the fair. We went over around 5pm and it was already pretty full. We didn’t realize would be that busy already since most of the events and the rides don’t start till later on in the night. After we finally found a place we could park we walked over to the fair grounds.

As it was still early we took paul over to look at the animals first. This time they had the goats still there where as last year the goats were already gone other then the one’s that had won. Paul had to get photos of every one of them. Even talked him into letting us get a photo of him with one. Before he took the camera over and started snapping away. Still working on getting him to actually pay attention to what hes snapping and to center the photos but hes doing very well.

After we got through the goat section we walked over to the cows. Paul walked through and took photos of all of the cows. He kinda got a bit upset as this one guy walked in front when he was trying to take a photo so he took another lol. Most were bit blurred as he was in such a rush to get the next photo, but did get a few that didn’t blur. Which a lot of it could just be the camera as it seems to keep blurring worse and worse. Won’t know for sure till we get a new camera next year.

After the cows we walked over to see the sheep. There was not all that many left other then the two over in the corner. Paul of course had to snap a photo’s of them.

After we got past the Sheep we walked through some of the other buildings that had booths set up for all sorts of things. Paul won a ruler that folds up off of a spinning wheel. He thought that was pretty cool. There was an older guy there in a wheelchair that had paul spin the wheel for him. Paul thought it was even cooler that he got to spin it again.

By time we finally made it through the other buildings it was getting close to time for the pig show to be going on so we walked over so paul could get a look at the pigs. As we were walking through and he was taken photos. One of the pigs was loose as they were trying to get it in the arena for the show. Paul didn’t even see it coming. Totally freaked him out when this pig about as big as him went running past. They were blocking it off from getting out of the building and it ended up coming past us again. Which they finally got it where it was suppose to be. We even got to see them washing some of the pigs which paul thought was cool. We walked over to the arena so Paul could see what they were doing. Which of course he was to busy trying to snap photos of every pig lol.

After that we walked over to where the demo car’s and mowers were sitting so that paul could get a look at some of the cars before they get all busted up. Which of course Mr photo bug was snapping away. There really wasn’t that many of the cars and mowers there yet so wasn’t able to get many photos.

By this time it was time for the Back Seat Driver contest to start so we went over and found our seats. This was first time we had ever seen this contest which it was hilarious. What it was, there was a line on the dirt that they had to follow around cones and then a mail box that you had to pick up beads at. Sounds easy right? Well here is the trick to it. The person driving the mower was blindfolded. Then there was a trailer with a seat where the OTHER person sits on that tells the driver which way to go. Oh my god it was hilarious. They would say right and the driver would go straight. They would say turn and they would turn and go straight. The gentleman and lady in Black ended up winning.

After that was over we sat and waited for the Derby’s to start. Which we didn’t realize at the time was still 2 hrs away. Got a few shots of paul as we waited. He was being a pirate and putting a finger over his eye. He kept putting his hands up or turning away trying to be silly. So most photos I got were of the back of his head. Paul got very tired of sitting and waiting. But it finally was time for the Pretty Car Contest.

The Pretty car contest is where the guys in the demo’s paint up the cars and whoever gets the most applause wins. There was all sorts of cars from each class in it. From the mowers to the rollover cars to the mini-stock. The guy that painted his mower a florescent pink ended up winning over the rest. Paul liked the Yellow car because the driver was named Rusty. He didnt understand that it was not HIS Rusty. But he got up and yelled and clapped when it was time for that car.

After the cars had all filed out of the arena the mowers lined all up. There was a total of 35 lawn mowers in the Lawn Mower Derby. I had never seen anything like it. Them things were just beating and banging on one another and flipping the others over. The one that won the pretty car contest ended up getting out pretty early on. He went to tip over and he stuck his foot out and caught himself which one of the officials seen and pulled him out. As that was not allowed. It went on for quite awhile. I would have never believed that mowers would hold up under that much damage. The last two mowers went at it for quite awhile before the one finally won. There was even a woman in it. She came in 5th place.

The mini-car derby had finally got here. Joe videotaped it all and Paul was all hyped up for the cars. Paul was all excited when it started. He was jumping up and down and everything. It was pretty neat watching all of the cars. Two cars got pushed up on the walls pretty early on. I am not sure which was more enjoyable. Watching the demo or watching Paul watch the demo. I was surprised that there was not all that many cars entered but I figure most are going to go for the Big demo on Thursday. Which is open to the world.

Well while they were setting up for the last event they had all the kids come up and they picked out kids to do the chicken dance. As paul was to shy to go last year he was all ready for this year. Last year they went to each corner and picked out kids. This time they only picked a few up in front. Paul did not make it over there in time to be picked which REALLY upset him. He was in tears crying for quite awhile. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t be out there doing it also. We tried to explain that not everyone could be picked and that he needed to be a good sport. This next time if they have it I am going to try and make sure hes right there by the announcer so maybe he will be picked this time.

Well after he didn’t get picked Paul was ready to leave. Joe wasn’t sure if the video would be long enough as he only had a few minutes left on the disc. We finally convinced paul to wait. They had to readjust the ramp for the Rollover Contest which took a little while but they finally got it set. The point of this last contest was to see who could roll the car the most. They count how many times that they roll. The first car out was a neon which of course paul was like MOMMY’S car! Which it was a Fail. It didn’t even roll. Then there was pauls yellow car. Which paul really got excited about. He did really well he rolled it all the way out of the arena and over the wall. He got 12 points on his first run. Which was pretty good as most only got 6 or less. Then there was this little blue metro all painted up. Was the guys first time. Said he was driveling the car 2 weeks before to work then decided to enter it. He REALLY rolled it. He got 17 points just in the first run. Which most only got a total of 8-12 on both tries. As each car only got 2 tries. I finally figured out how to work the 3 shot burst towards the end so can actually see the cars flipping in the air. One really cool thing was the guy in the grey car was 72 yrs old.

After it was over and we were leaving I decided to try and see how the 3 shot burst would work out with the lights of the midway. It didn’t do so well as it blurred most. Will try when we go back Thursday.

Fair Day One Horse Shows

Well we went to the Fair to let paul watch the Motocross racing with the four wheelers and motorcycles. We first stopped to watch the Horse show for a few minutes. I really enjoyed that part just watching the different horses and such. In one of the first class’s where some of the kids were entered omg! This one lady had it looked like a 2 yr old “if” that old riding while she led it was TOO cute! Which of course she won first place lol. After a few minutes though Paul and Joe were bored with it so they walked down to watch the motocross practice before the races.

Fair Day One Motocross

So after a few classes I went down to join them to watch the motocross. Paul liked it yet didn’t. He liked watching but didn’t care for the loud noise of the engines on some of the quads. We stayed and watched for quite awhile but after so many paul was ready to go home. As we watched could see the rides arriving for the midway of the fair. I got some photos of some of the races of the guys up in the air and such. Only had 2 accidents there while we were watching. One was of a girl about 8 or 9 bike laid down on her but she was able to get on her feet when they got the bike off of her. Then an older boy came off the big jump and rolled they ended up taking him to the ambulance and stopping the race. Not sure what happened to him.

Kayaking Trip

Well today was the big day. We watched the weather all week and chance of rain kept going down but, when we got up this morning it had went back up to 60% we were like crap! But we were DETERMINED! Was only day that we were able to meet up with some friend of ours that we don’t get to see very often. We met up with them at Wendy’s up in corydon as they didn’t know where we were going so had them follow us down.

Well got down there was kinda chilly still and over cast but we were not letting that stop us. I choose to go in the sit-inside Dagger that he had and Joe had to use the Sit-on-top with the jump seat in the back for paul. Kim and Allen both got the other sit-insides but there’s were more of the touring boat whereas mine was wider and more of a play boat but not.

Once we all had our boats the guy went through some tips and things with us so we knew where to stop and all at and so forth. We started off pretty easy. Kim had a bit of a time learning how to steer and how to control her boat but she did fine. As was her first time going out, Im sure next time she will be even better as she will have some experience and bit more trust that the boat isnt going to tip over on her.

While we were kayaking Kim caught 3 fish! Shes only person I know that can catch fish without a pole or net. Guess will need to get her a fishing license before the next time.. Was pretty funny they flopped over the front of her boat not sure how or why. Think she might have caught them with her paddle as she was going through. Sure did make for some laughs and a good time though.

The part we went down today we haven’t went down before but, it was a lot better then the part we went down last time as the water was constantly flowing so didn’t have to work nearly as hard to go down stream. In fact Allen would put his feet up and just lay back and float down stream.

Paul had a good time as well. He wasn’t to thrilled when water got on his face but he was excited after was past the part. He road on the sit-on-top with daddy for awhile then when we switched boats he sat in the sit-inside and then with me on the sit-on-top. He even helped paddle the boat for awhile. By the end though he was wore out and ready to go home. He passed out in the car on the way home.

I tried to get some good photos of the 4 of us and of the scenery around as it was very beautiful but most times we were at the part where the water was moving and was afraid that would get the camera wet so had to put it away. Allen’s camera got a bit wet at the very end but hopefully it will dry out and be alright. All in all I think everyone had a great time though, and when we get our own boats next year *hope* we want to go out more often.
